Privatex Pyro: Slovakia opens our series with the fireworks designers

The first installment of our series dedicated to the fireworks creators competing at the Masters de Feu 2022: focus on Slovakia with Privatex Pyro. A pyrotechnic house coming to Compiègne to defend a vision of fire shaped by tradition, innovation, and a sense of spectacle.

Privatex Pyro: la Slovaquie en ouverture de notre série avec les artificiers

To open this series of meetings with the pyrotechnicians expected at the Masters de Feu 2022, we turn to Slovakia. On Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Compiègne racecourse, Privatex Pyro represented this Central European country in an international competition where each team had to condense its artistic universe into fifteen minutes of fire, music and emotion. Before the event, this first portrait invited the public to get to know a pyrotechnic house that is discreet to the French public, yet firmly established in the European professional landscape.

A first portrait to step behind the scenes of the competition

The Masters de Feu are not simply a succession of spectacular bouquets. The competition shines a spotlight on creators, teams, pyrotechnic cultures and very different ways of approaching the night. A few weeks ahead of the 2022 edition, the goal of this series was simple: put a face to the competitors, let their sensibility be heard and remind audiences that behind every luminous tableau lies work of writing, manufacturing, safety and synchronization of extreme precision.

Privatex Pyro was therefore opening this gallery of portraits. A natural choice, given that Slovakia has a pyrotechnic tradition that is less publicized than that of some major fireworks countries, yet rich in industrial and spectacular expertise. For the Compiègne audience, this participation offered the chance to discover a signature from Dubnica nad Váhom, a town in western Slovakia, at the heart of a region where industry and technology play an important role.

Privatex Pyro, a Slovak company built on craftsmanship

Privatex Pyro is associated with Ľubomír Masár, a leading figure in Slovak pyrotechnics, and with an entrepreneurial journey that began in the early 1990s. Founded in 1991 in Dubnica nad Váhom, the company developed around the design, production, and distribution of pyrotechnic products. It is regularly presented as one of the major players in the sector in Slovakia, with activities spanning festive, professional, and industrial uses.

This dual culture, between manufacturing and staging, is essential to understanding the approach of a team like Privatex Pyro. In an international competition, a pyrotechnician does not come with products alone: they come with a language. The choice of calibers, the consistency of the colors, the density of the sequences, the length of the silences, the scale of a finale, or the delicacy of an opening all say something about their identity. The Slovak company could thus draw on a concrete knowledge of pyrotechnic material, as well as the ability to transform it into a visual narrative.

Slovakia in a very international 2022 edition

The 2022 edition of Masters de Feu marked the competition’s return to Compiègne after a two-year absence. Four nations were announced in competition: Spain with Hermanos Caballer, Slovakia with Privatex Pyro, Switzerland with Sugyp and France with Carat Pyrotechnie. This lineup perfectly illustrated the spirit of the event: bringing together, for one evening, different fireworks schools and allowing both the jury and the audience to compare artistic visions within a shared framework.

The assigned theme, “Around the World,” naturally called for a sense of travel. For a Slovak company, it opened up a particularly exciting field of expression: how do you tell the world story from your own point of origin? How do you turn geographic inspiration into an emotion shared by several thousand spectators? How do you move beyond postcard imagery to create a truly musical and visual composition? These questions lie at the heart of the fireworks artist’s craft, especially in a competition where originality must remain clear from the grandstands as well as from the lawn.

Fifteen minutes to convince the jury and the audience

At Masters de Feu, constraint is part of the show. Each competitor has a set duration, a technical framework and a theme to respect. In 2022, the teams had to present a creation of around fifteen minutes. This short format demands highly controlled dramaturgy: an opening that immediately captures attention, a development that establishes the personality of the show, and then a final surge strong enough to leave a lasting impression.

Musical synchronization is one of the decisive criteria. A competition firework display is not a mere sound accompaniment: music guides the tempo, shapes the scenes, and sets the audience’s breathing. The finest shows give the impression that the effects emerge from the score itself. For Privatex Pyro, as for the other teams, the challenge was therefore to combine technical precision with immediate emotion, power with finesse, and a demonstration of expertise with artistic coherence.

An event that celebrates the craftsmen of fire

Masters de Feu were created to place pyrotechnicians back at the heart of attention. In the collective imagination, fireworks are often associated with a festive moment: a 14 July display, a popular celebration, a grand event finale. The Compiegne competition reminds us that it is also an art of composition, demanding and collective, where artistic concept, logistics, regulations, site layout, safety measures, and firing direction all come together.

This dimension becomes especially apparent when a foreign house comes to present its work in France. It must adapt to the venue, to the constraints of the racecourse, to the expectations of the competition, to the audience’s reading, and to the direct comparison with three other teams. Nothing is left to chance. The pyrotechnicians must design the experience from the ground to the sky, from the first note to the final burst of light. It is this level of exacting standards that gives Masters de Feu their singular intensity.

Compiègne, a stage open to major pyrotechnic signatures

On September 17, 2022, the Compiègne racecourse hosted an evening designed as a grand popular spectacle: gates opening in the late afternoon, an opening musical set, an opening firework display, four competing shows, then a closing bouquet. This sequence allowed the audience to gradually enter the world of the competition and appreciate the differences between the proposals. Each performance became a distinct chapter, with its own tempo, dominant colors, breaks, and way of filling the sky.

For Privatex Pyro, this stage represented a prime showcase. Taking part in the Masters de Feu means presenting one’s work to a large audience, but also to a jury attentive to the details: overall aesthetics, emotion, synchronization, variety of effects, and the quality of the narrative. The winner of the 2022 edition was to receive the Silver Master, an accolade paving the way to the grand finale of the cycle, the Gold Master. Without prejudging the result, Privatex Pyro’s presence already confirmed the competition’s international ambition.

What Privatex Pyro brought to the evening

Through this first encounter, the Masters de Feu invited spectators to see the pyrotechnic show in a new light. Even before the firing begins, learning about a team’s origins, experience, relationship to craftsmanship, and fire culture changes the way the show is perceived. The sky is no longer just a canvas for effects: it becomes the expression of a journey, a country, a workshop, a passed-down and refined savoir-faire.

Privatex Pyro came to Compiègne with this promise: to take the audience on a journey from Slovakia to a broader imagination, answering the theme “Around the World” through the universal language of light. This first episode set the tone for the series: meeting the fireworks creators to better understand what is at stake behind the brilliance of a fireworks display. At the Masters de Feu, emotion often begins before the first explosion: it is born in anticipation, in discovering the artists, and in the curiosity of seeing how each will write their night.
