When the Nuits de Feu came to an end in 2008, France lost one of its most prestigious international pyrotechnic art competitions. For nearly eight years, no event took up the torch from a competition that had inspired generations of enthusiasts and enabled the leading pyrotechnics companies to compete in an exceptional setting.

For many professionals and fireworks enthusiasts alike, its disappearance left a genuine void.

In 2016, Masters & Events Factory (MEF) decided to take on an ambitious challenge: to give France a major international fireworks competition once again—one capable of showcasing pyrotechnic expertise and bringing together the finest fireworks artists in a contest where creativity, music, scenography and emotion take centre stage.

This is how the Masters de Feu were born.

Why Compiègne?

Compiègne was the natural choice.

An imperial city with an exceptional heritage and a prestigious history, located just outside Paris, Compiègne is renowned for its cultural, sporting, academic and economic vitality. Its unique setting, accessibility and enduring commitment to hosting major events made it the ideal place for an international occasion.

The ambition was twofold: to create an outstanding cultural event while contributing to the city's tourism profile and economic appeal.

Nearly ten years later, that ambition has become a reality.

Since their creation, the Masters de Feu have welcomed teams representing many European countries, including France, Italy, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Portugal and Greece. Each edition gives audiences the opportunity to discover distinctive artistic worlds that reflect the richness and diversity of international pyrotechnics.

A private event supported by its audiences and partners

Contrary to a sometimes widespread misconception, the Masters de Feu are an entirely privately run event, conceived, produced and organised by Masters & Events Factory.

The organiser assumes the event's full financial risk. Funding comes primarily from ticket sales, support from private partners and the organiser's own revenue.

Each edition represents a total investment of approximately €500,000 including VAT.

This budget covers everything required to make the event a success: artistic design, infrastructure, security, sound systems, audience services, communications, insurance, logistics, staffing and all the technical services essential to staging an event of this scale.

The pyrotechnic competition alone represents an investment of approximately €200,000 including VAT, covering show design, fireworks, technical systems, hospitality for the international teams and all the resources required to present pyrotechnic creations of international standing.

Without the loyalty of its audiences and the commitment of its partners, a project of this kind simply could not exist.

A partnership built around a shared goal

Like many major cultural and sporting events, the Masters de Feu rely on partnerships with local stakeholders.

The partnership established with the City of Compiègne is based on a simple principle: an exchange of services.

The City provides various municipal resources needed for the smooth running of the event. In return, Masters & Events Factory promotes the City through its communication channels, visibility initiatives, public relations and the invitations included in the partnership.

This is therefore not a publicly funded show, but a collaboration in which each party contributes its expertise to offer audiences an international-scale event and strengthen the area's appeal.

An enduring commitment to protecting the site

Mindful of the richness of the natural heritage that hosts the Masters de Feu, the organiser pays particular attention to preserving the site. Each edition complies with exacting specifications that include clear environmental measures. International teams are made aware of these issues; products and pyrotechnic effects that limit fallout are favoured wherever possible; and the entire site is thoroughly and systematically cleaned after the event. This continuous-improvement approach will soon be presented in greater detail to share the environmental commitments implemented by the Masters de Feu.

A cultural experience in its own right

The Masters de Feu are among the few ticketed pyrotechnic shows in France.

This is a deliberate choice. It guarantees the event's independence and makes it possible to offer a show every year whose artistic and technical quality continues to grow.

Attending the Masters de Feu means experiencing nearly three hours of entertainment, combining an international competition, pyrotechnic creations, entertainment, an awards ceremony and a grand finale.

As with an evening at the theatre, a concert, a comedy show or a trip to the cinema, the ticket is the audience member's contribution to a cultural experience.

The different ticket categories simply allow everyone to choose the level of comfort that suits them: lawn, chair, grandstand, Carré Or or hospitality areas all offer the same show, with facilities tailored to different expectations.

Mindful of the financial pressures everyone faces, the organiser is committed to maintaining a measured pricing policy. Despite the continuing rise in the cost of living, technical services, raw materials, transport and security requirements, price changes are deliberately kept reasonable so that the event remains accessible to as many people as possible.

An event with an impact far beyond Compiègne

Since their creation, the Masters de Feu have welcomed more than 120,000 spectators.

Year after year, ever larger audiences travel to attend this international competition.

For several editions now, tickets have sold out as early as July, several weeks before the show. This loyalty reflects the audience's trust and the place the Masters de Feu now hold among the major events of the summer season.

The event's reach extends far beyond the Oise department. Every year, the official website attracts visitors from across France and many other countries, confirming the growing interest in the Masters de Feu among both enthusiasts and pyrotechnics professionals.

The local area also benefits from the event's economic impact. Each year, Compiègne's hotels are fully booked for the occasion, while restaurants, shops and local service providers benefit from the arrival of several thousand visitors.

To measure these benefits even more accurately, Masters & Events Factory will soon establish an Observatory of Economic, Tourism and Social Impact to gain a better understanding of visitors and provide objective data on the impact of the Masters de Feu across the area.

A collective adventure

Behind the Masters de Feu are hundreds of women and men—fireworks artists, technicians, musicians, security staff, partners, companies and public authorities—each contributing their expertise to the success of the event.

For nearly ten years, the Masters de Feu have demonstrated that a privately run event can become a true regional project when it is driven by bold ambition, exacting artistic standards, committed partners and a loyal audience.

More than a pyrotechnic competition, the Masters de Feu have become a major cultural, tourism and economic event, raising Compiègne's profile while celebrating excellence in international pyrotechnic art.
